Born in Belfast, Maine, as (Virginia Brown) in 1958, the third child of Clarence and Sheila (Roberts) Brown.  After my parents divorce when I was fourteen years old, my younger brother, Mark,  and I were raised by our mother in her coastal home with pillars in the front and a big, wrap around veranda. During and after the divorce, I  was deeply saddened by the divorce and one day my mother handed me a journal  and told me to write about what I was feeling.  I sat on our porch with pen and pad in hand writing for hours, upon hours. Writing about my feelings through stories, and poems.  I was grateful my mother handed me that journal, as that journal turned into tablets of writings, then into notebooks of writings, into now- a suitcase of writings.  Writing was a way to let my feelings out about everything. and it seemed as if my writing was the only way for me to deal with what had happened to our family unit. My thoughts would turn from the sadness, to dreaming about being a published poet, a writer, and one day dreaming that my stories and books would be sold...

After graduating high school class of 1976, I took coursework in journalism: "Writing for Profit" offered by the University of Maine at Machias taught by Charles Zurhorst.  Later I joined the Maine Writer's Publishers Alliance, they put out an Anthology, called Soundings, and three of my poems were published in it.  After that I sent one of my poems to Washington County Magazine for possible publication. One of my writings was chosen to be published, and I received my first check for my work, along with a copy of the magazine in 1983.  Which just deepened my dream of being a published writer...

For over 32 years I have been married to a man who made the military his career.  I've lived a colorful life and had the privilege of  living and traveling in Europe-  I never had any room for boredom in my life.  Once living back stateside, home was seven different states for me.  My husband and I have two grown sons, Rob and Shane.  We have been blessed with a sweet daughter-in-law Bethany, a grandchild, Tyler and three step-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Abigail and Michael.  I presently live in Ohio with my husband where I write in the hills high above the valley.  My husband, David, retired from the Navy in 2005 and we both are enjoying our  20-acre farm. When I'm not watering our multiple gardens, canning, cooking, or feeding our chickens or dog, my time is spent as a freelance writer, with pen and pad still in my hand, doing what I enjoy doing most, writing...
